Do you know the importance of your vehicle’s unseen safety systems?
The Boston Globe featured a piece on the impact that fender-benders have on the ADAS safety systems in your vehicle.
Many modern vehicles rely on Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) like automatic braking, blind-spot detection, and lane-keeping technology to keep drivers safe. But after a collision—or even a simple repair like a windshield replacement—these systems can be knocked out of alignment and must be recalibrated. Unfortunately, many smaller auto repair shops lack the tools, space, or training to properly recalibrate ADAS components, leaving thousands of vehicles on the road with misaligned sensors that could fail to prevent a crash.
While most new car dealerships include ADAS calibration with every repair, smaller independent shops often skip the step due to cost and lack of resources. This gap poses a significant safety risk, especially as more cars come equipped with ADAS features. Experts stress that even minor repairs, like bumper removal or wheel alignment, can throw these systems off. Yet without specific data tying miscalibrated ADAS to crashes, the issue often goes unnoticed—until something goes wrong.
